City of Grand Rapids

The City of Grand Rapids was a double decked steamer built in Grand Haven Michigan. She worked the trade between Owen Sound, Manitoulin island and the Bruce Peninsula.

A fire broke out on her deck while in Little Tub Harbour. The vessel was then towed and released to drift into Big Tub Harbour. It continued to burn into the waterline as it sank at the head of the harbour.

Dive Notes

The wreck now lies in 15ft of water just south of the Sweepstakes. The steel sheathed hull can still be seen with the charred tip of the frame poking through the surface. The rudder and propeller were removed in 1968 and can be seen outside of the St. Edmund township museum.
